Gala Bingo Platinum Jackpot

A Gala Bingo player in Doncaster recently won a Platinum Jackpot worth £187,160. The woman, who lives in Cusworth, completed a full house in 45 calls on Sunday 25 May, 2008, beating every other player in the country.

The £187,160 total prize consisted of a house prize worth £185, a zone prize of £1,007, a National Bingo Game prize of £8,920 and the Platinum Jackpot itself, which was worth £177,048.

Although the 43 year old player has been visiting the Gala Club in Doncaster for several years, that habit is one that came about by accident. Or rather, in an effort to avoid an accident...

“I only joined the Gala Club in Wheatley Hall Road originally four years ago so that I could use the loo there when I was passing, because Matalan closed theirs,” the winner explained. “Then I decided I liked playing bingo.

“I usually play on a Tuesday and occasionally a Thursday, but last weekend my nine-year-old son was at cub camp and my husband went to a pub with friends to watch Doncaster Rovers in the play-off so I decided I might as well go to the Gala.

“I went to the pub to break the news to him – he was already happy that Doncaster beat Leeds – and he thought I was joking at first. We both woke at 2.30a.m. the next morning and couldn’t get back to sleep.”

Even days after the win, the Doncaster player was having trouble believing how lucky she had been. “I just can’t take it in and I have to keep pinching myself,” she said. “It’s a nice feeling but a bit like sickness in my stomach!”

The winner now plans to pay for a new kitchen that she recently had fitted, and will then take a holiday so that she can make plans for the rest of the cash.
