Online Bingo is Booming

With the credit crunch and the smoking ban, land bingo halls are really feeling the pinch right now, there are halls closing all over the country with tax and VAT restrictions not helping their plight. Yet according to an interview given in the Telegraph this week with Gigi Levy, the head of 888.com. Online bingo is booming.

The newspaper reports that the online bingo sector is worth £800 million in the UK alone and things have never looked so good for online bingo, it’s an interesting article and shows clearer than ever the differences between online bingo and the bingo halls, which have until now been thought of as two parts of the same entity. This article shows that rather than being one and the same thing, they are two separate entities in fierce completion and while land bingo is dragging its heels, online bingo is booming.

The current economy is forcing more people to stay at home, short of cash for luxury’s more and more people are getting their entertainment online. No smoking rules at the land based bingo halls are also encouraging more people to stay at home and play bingo online.

The online bingo sector seems to have unleashed a new generation of bingo players, no more old ladies with blue rinses but young professional women with their own disposable income tempted in by the high win/low cost appeal to online bingo. There are so many people playing online now that for a very small outlay you can win some fantastic prizes, all from the comfort of your own home with the social aspect of online bingo chat rooms to keep you entertained.

Now of course one of the biggest bingo companies Gala Bingo is withdrawing from the National Bingo game and replacing it with a game that is already popular with online bingo players.

If nothing else in such a technologically advanced world it certainly poses the question. Who will the next generation of land bingo players be?
