World Record Smashed

The bingo world record has been smashed by a brand new National Bingo Game Platinum Jackpot winner. Soraya Lowell from Scotland won £1,167,795, beating Christine Bradfield’s previous record – set in January 2007 – of £1,101,686.

Soraya set the new world record at Club 3000 in Coatbridge, Scotland. The 38 year old office cleaner and mother of four had been playing there since the club opened just over sixteen months ago. Making a full house before any other National Bingo Game player in the UK (the game is played at over 500 clubs all over the country) and paying a little extra to qualify for the Big’N progressive jackpots made Soraya almost £1.2 million richer, and keen to call her husband at home.

“He handed the phone to our eldest daughter who heard the shouting in the background and said she is telling the truth,” Soraya explained. “I have three daughters and a son aged 13, 15, 19 and 21 to help me spend it. They have all put in wee orders already; the two oldest want convertibles and don’t even have licences yet!”

With the phone call made, Soraya started celebrating with friends and neighbours, and was still going in the wee hours of the next morning. “It just won’t sink in yet,” Soraya said, still very much in a party mood. “I haven’t slept at all but I will be back at work on Tuesday as usual.  I clean offices until 1.30a.m. and I don’t intend to give up my job. I like the girls I work with, and they have already said to me don’t pack it in.”

Not only is the win good news for Soraya, it’s also good for the bingo game itself. Steve Baldwin, Communications Manager at the National Bingo Game, said: “This is our second millionaire in eight weeks. We aim to make more winners more often at bingo and love it when they are record breaking!  We are thrilled for Soraya and look forward to presenting her with her record breaking cheque.”
